This educational facility, totaling 350,000 square feet and costing $100m, was opened in the spring of 2006. It is the home of the York University Music Department and Dance Department. It includes a 350 seat proscenium theatre, 350 seat recital hall, 85 seat dance studio, 200 seat acting studio, 500 seat cinema, music teaching spaces, dance teaching spaces, classrooms and theatre production support spaces.

Schick Shiner and Associates wrote the building programme for the facility and acted as the owner’s representative during the design and construction finally completing a 6 month residency overseeing the final construction and the purchase and installation of $3m of theatre technical equipment.

This project is a joint venture of the City of Camrose, University of Alberta and the Township of Camrose. It is located on the Augustana College site in the City of Camrose and includes a 550 seat proscenium theatre, 2000sf multi-purpose space and related support spaces. Opened in October, 2014.

This 550 seat theatre and regional art gallery opened in 2002. Schick Shiner and Associates were involved in the project from 1995 and worked on all phases of the project from the feasibility study, building programme, operations study as well as the design.

  • Burton Theatre Planning Study, York University, Toronto, Ontario; A study developing options for the re-development of the Burton Theatre Facility.   • Accolade Centre – York University, Toronto, Ontario: The firm acted as an adviser to the University on arts specific issues by reviewing and commenting on the work by the project design team. In addition the firm guided the University Purchasing Department and Faculty of Fine Arts in the purchase of $3.5m in theatre equipment. The firm was resident on site for the last 6 months of construction as the owner’s representative in this design/build project. This work is a follow on to the building programming study that the firm completed in 2003. This 350,000 sq ft, $100m building opened in March/06.
